STEAM for Tweens-Cookie Mining

  • Dowagiac District Library 211 Commercial St. Dowagiac, MI 49047 USA (map)

Children ages 8-12 are invited to join STEAM for Tweens, a new science program designed to engage young minds to think like a scientist. STEAM  for Tweens will meet at 4 pm in the Pokagon Room on the second level of the library.

Cookie Mining:  For this activity, imagine you are a coal miner during the Industrial Revolution in America. Coal is an essential source of fuel for the trains that transport both passengers and supplies across our growing railroad systems. You have just arrived in a new town to mine for coal.  You brought only the clothes on your back and $200 to finance the beginning of your mining career. You are instantly welcomed by landowners who are willing to sell you mining rights along with any equipment you might need for a set price.

Come to this STEAM for Tweens activity to learn about basic cost management related to mining and hopefully you get rich from all of your hard work!

Space is limited, so please register by December 4 by calling (269) 782-3826 or email (att: Pam) at dowagiaclibrarystaff@gmail.com
